The Dorset LEADER programme is coming to the end. The Chairs of Southern and Northern Dorset Local Action Groups invite you to celebrate LEADER funding in Dorset and look ahead to the future. This is an opportunity to inform decision-makers and identify priorities for the future delivery of rural grants in Dorset.
LEADER is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and managed by Defra and the Rural Payments Agency. Dorset has benefitted from three successful programmes from 2000 to 2020, each delivered by community led Local Action Groups in support of rural prosperity and sustainable communities.
The future for rural development funding is uncertain, but the current consensus is that the LEADER approach should inform the design and delivery of any future funding programme; i.e. that is an area-based, bottom-up approach, based on a local partnership.
Delegates will hear from LEADER funded projects and speakers with different viewpoints of rural funding. They will bring their perspectives on the land-based sector, rural business, tourism and community. You will be able to contribute to a ‘statement of intent’ for the LAG’s, or their successors to take forward.
